 Council Members Give Sea Cadet Briefing To Marietta School Superintendent

Four Atlanta Metropolitan Council members met with Marietta City Schools Superintendent, Dr. Emily Lembeck, on February 1, 2012, to brief her on the Sea Cadets Program. Depicted (L-R) in Dr. Lembeck's office are Atlanta Metropolitan Council Board Member Lamar Cheatham; VP Legislative Affairs Don Giles; Marietta Schools Superintendent Dr. Emily Lembeck; LT Rhonda Smith, CO, NARS B-1 Sea Cadet Unit; and LCDR Jay Kuczma, XO, NARS B-1 Sea Cadet Unit.

 INSTALLATION DINNER

Harley Jones (R) relieved Frank Campbell (L)  as President of Atlanta Metropolitan Council January 10 as the Council’s 2012 slate of officers and directors was installed. Council member, Representative Joe Wilkinson, Captain, USN, (Ret) Georgia District 52 was keynote speaker and installing officer. He is also retired from Coca Cola. (click here to continue)

DON GILES RECEIVES NATIONAL PRESIDENTS AWARD

     National Director, Southeast Region VP Legislative Affairs and Atlanta Metro VP Legislative Affairs Don Giles received the National Presidents Annual award from President Dan Branch at the national convention in October.  It was recognition for giving 10 Navy League Community Service Organization Presentation "Protecting the Sea Lanes and America's Commerce (CSOP) presentations to civic groups and 7 Legislative Briefings during 2011.  I t is the highest National Award one can receive.

     {Editor’s note)  We are late with this information as we were waiting for a photo of the presentation from National, which they cannot locate.)

TOYS FOR TOTS DINNER DECEMBER 13

Captain Steve Kirby Commanding Officer Georgia Tech /Morehouse University NROTC was honored during the council's annual Toys For Tots Christmas social. President Frank Campbell presented him with a Navy League History book and a membership in the Navy League. CAPT Kirby retired with 30 years’ service.

Representatives of the NLUS Atlanta Metropolitan Council met with Georgia Congressman Paul Broun (Georgia District 10) in his District Office in Athens, on February 20, 2012. Don Giles briefed him on the "U.S.-Flag Merchant Marine: An Important Asset."
